Booking & Rates
Booking platforms like Airbnb and Vrbo can add their own service fees on top of our rates. When you book directly through 34northvacations.com you avoid those fees entirely — same home, lower total cost, and a more personal experience from booking to checkout.
We use dynamic pricing — the same approach used by hotels and airlines. Rates adjust based on seasonal demand, local events, how far out you're booking, and market conditions. The rate you see when you search is always the best current rate for those dates.
Yes. A rental agreement is required for every reservation. It outlines check-in details, house rules, cancellation terms, and expectations for both sides. You'll receive it digitally and can sign in minutes.
We strongly recommend it. Travel insurance protects your trip if something unexpected happens — illness, travel disruption, or a family emergency. Given hurricane season on the Crystal Coast, it's especially worth considering for summer and fall bookings.
Arrival & Check-in
Standard check-in is at 4:00 PM and check-out is at 10:00 AM. That window gives our team the time to clean and prepare every home to our quality standards before the next guests arrive. Early check-in or late check-out may be possible depending on the schedule — just ask.
Our check-in is seamless and contactless. Before you arrive you'll receive a digital welcome guide with your door code, parking instructions, wifi password, and everything else you need. No waiting on anyone — drive straight to your property and walk right in. Our local team is always reachable by call or text.
Parking details are specific to each property and included in your digital welcome guide. Most of our homes accommodate multiple vehicles. Please stick to designated spots and avoid parking on grass or in neighboring driveways.
Property & Amenities
Yes. All 34 North Vacations properties come with fresh linens and towels. We operate our own in-house linen and laundry service — not outsourced — which means consistent quality from stay to stay. You'll find a properly made bed waiting for you.
We stock our homes well beyond the basics — paper products, toiletries, dish soap, laundry detergent, coffee, kitchen essentials, and beach gear. We intentionally over-prepare because running out of necessities mid-trip is not the experience we're here to deliver.
It depends on the property. Some homes include golf carts and some don't — that's clearly listed in each property description before you book. If a cart is included, your welcome guide will have instructions for use.
Most of our properties include beach chairs, an umbrella, and additional gear — check the individual listing for specifics. Our goal is to eliminate the need to haul equipment from home.
Contact us immediately. We have a local team and a reliable vendor network, so most issues get resolved quickly. Don't suffer through a broken A/C or cold shower — just reach out and let us fix it.
Pets & Beach Access
Absolutely — and this is one of the biggest advantages of vacationing on the Crystal Coast. Emerald Isle, Atlantic Beach, and Pine Knoll Shores all welcome leashed dogs on the beach year-round with no peak-season bans. This is genuinely unusual for popular East Coast beach destinations. A pet fee applies for pet-friendly rental homes and is outlined in your rental agreement.
The difference is significant. Many popular beach destinations ban dogs during prime summer hours:

• Wrightsville Beach, NC — Dogs completely banned April 1 through September 30
• Myrtle Beach, SC — No dogs on beach 10am–5pm from May 1 through Labor Day
• Kill Devil Hills, OBX — No dogs 9am–6pm Memorial Day through September
• Southern Shores, OBX — No dogs 9am–6pm May 15 through September 15

On the Crystal Coast, your dog is welcome on the beach every day of your stay — morning, afternoon, and evening — as long as they're on a leash.
Emerald Isle — Leashed dogs welcome year-round. Leash required at all times including in the water and surf zone. No seasonal restrictions.

Atlantic Beach — Leashed dogs welcome year-round on a leash under 12 feet. Dogs must stay clear of the lifeguarded sections near The Circle.

Pine Knoll Shores — Leashed dogs welcome year-round. One of the most relaxed, uncrowded pet-friendly beaches on the Crystal Coast.

Always pick up after your dog — waste bags are available at many beach access points.
Some properties are pet-friendly and some are not — it varies by homeowner preference and is clearly marked in each listing. If you're traveling with a pet, filter for pet-friendly options or reach out and we'll match you with the right home. A pet fee applies and is outlined in your rental agreement.
Yes. Emerald Isle Woods Park has a 1-mile loop trail perfect for dogs. Blue Heron Park in Emerald Isle also welcomes leashed dogs. The Rachel Carson Reserve near Beaufort is a beautiful waterfront nature area where leashed dogs are welcome. Your digital welcome guide will include dog-friendly spots specific to your property's location.
Beach Safety
Emerald Isle, Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores, and Indian Beach all use the same joint beach warning flag system. Important: Emerald Isle never flies a green flag — the beach is always at minimum yellow because there are always inherent risks when entering the ocean.
🟡 Yellow Flag

Moderate hazard. Use caution in the ocean at all times.

🔴 Red Flag

Dangerous rip currents. Stay out of the water.

🔴🔴 Double Red

Ocean closed. Swimming prohibited — you can be fined or arrested.

🟣 Purple Flag

Hazardous marine life nearby (jellyfish, Portuguese man-o-war). Rare.

Flags are posted Memorial Day through Labor Day when lifeguards are on duty. Check emeraldisle-nc.org for daily conditions year-round.
Rip currents are the most common ocean hazard on the Crystal Coast and can occur even on calm days. Here's what to do:

1. Stay calm. Most rip currents only carry you a few hundred yards from shore. Panic and fighting the current exhausts you quickly.

2. Don't swim straight back to shore. You'll fight the current and tire yourself out.

3. Swim parallel to the shore until you feel the current release, then angle back toward the beach diagonally.

4. If you can't swim out, float and conserve energy. Wave your arms and call for help.

5. Never swim alone. Always go in with a buddy and let someone on shore know your location. Rescue cans are installed at public beach access points throughout Emerald Isle.
Look for a channel of choppy, discolored, or foamy water that appears to be moving away from shore rather than toward it. The area where you don't see waves breaking is often where a rip current is located — the calmer-looking water is frequently the most dangerous spot. If the water looks rough or you're unsure, don't go in.
On calm days when the ocean is flat, stingrays settle close to shore and can be difficult to see. Shuffle your feet when entering the water rather than stepping. The vibration disturbs stingrays and they move away. This simple habit prevents the majority of stingray incidents on Crystal Coast beaches, which increase significantly when the water is calm and flat.
Portuguese man-o-war and jellyfish occasionally appear on Crystal Coast beaches — a purple flag will be flying when they're present. Marine life feeding typically peaks at sunrise and sunset, so it's generally advisable to avoid being in the water during those times. If you see a school of fish jumping nearby, a marine predator may be in the area.
Lifeguards patrol beaches in Emerald Isle, Atlantic Beach, and other Crystal Coast towns from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Outside of that season, beaches are unguarded — swim with extra caution and always with a buddy. Cape Lookout National Seashore has no lifeguards year-round, so visitors should exercise extra care there at all times.
Key rules across Crystal Coast beaches:

• Dogs must be on a leash at all times, including in the water
• Alcohol — beer and wine are allowed on Emerald Isle beaches; rules vary by town
• Fireworks that leave the ground or explode are prohibited on all beaches
• No camping on beaches from Atlantic Beach to Emerald Isle
• Sea turtle nests are marked and protected — do not enter closures
• Don't climb the dunes — they protect communities from ocean overwash
• Littering is illegal — trash cans are at every public beach access
Policies
Yes, all properties are strictly non-smoking indoors. Outdoor smoking is generally permitted — please be respectful of neighbors and dispose of materials properly. Smoking inside results in a significant cleaning fee outlined in your rental agreement.
Guest safety is always the priority. If a mandatory evacuation is ordered, you'll be required to leave and we'll work with you on any applicable refund per your rental agreement. For non-mandatory weather events we stay in close contact and keep guests updated. This is one of the strongest reasons we recommend travel insurance for any summer or fall booking on the Crystal Coast.
Yes. Our homes sit in residential neighborhoods where people live year-round. Quiet hours are typically observed after 10 PM, and occupancy limits exist for safety and insurance purposes. We ask that you treat the property and neighbors the way you'd want someone to treat yours.
Local Tips
The Crystal Coast — Emerald Isle, Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores, Beaufort, and Morehead City — is genuinely less developed and less crowded than either destination. The water is clear, the pace is slower, and the towns feel authentic. Beaufort is one of the most underrated waterfront towns on the East Coast. Wild horses on Shackleford Banks, the Cape Lookout Lighthouse, shipwreck diving out of Morehead City, and 85 miles of coastline that still feel like a secret.
Every guest receives a curated digital welcome guide specific to their property and location — our favorite restaurants, local activities, water access points, boat rentals, fishing charters, and insider tips you won't find on a travel blog. We live here, so the recommendations are genuine.
Peak season is June through August and it books fast. Late May and September are two of our favorite times — the water is still warm, crowds are thinner, and rates are lower. October is underrated for the weather alone. If you want the full summer experience, book early. For a quieter, more local feel, come in the shoulder seasons.
