When I first walked into this Atlantic Beach condo, I saw potential hiding under dated furniture, worn-out finishes, and a whole lot of guest complaints. From uncomfortable beds and dingy showers to a cramped dining setup and a very questionable sofa—it was clear why this vacation rental was underperforming. But where others saw a mess, I saw a makeover opportunity.

With some thoughtful vacation rental design, a deep clean, and smart updates that didn’t break the bank, we transformed this beach condo into a top-performing guest favorite on Airbnb.

Vacation Rental Redesign That Works

This wasn’t a full gut job. My approach is always to assess what can be saved and build on what’s already there. The vibe? Think coastal grandmother, but make her cool. Cozy, clean, and just quirky enough to make guests smile.

1. Comfort Comes First

The old sofa was a guest complaint magnet. We replaced it with a high-end slipcovered sofa that’s roomy, comfy, and best of all—machine washable. (Bonus: it was secondhand, so we saved big without sacrificing quality.)

2. Better Beds = Better Reviews

Out with the short, squeaky bunkbeds and in with two double beds that guests of all ages can actually enjoy. In the primary suite, we upgraded the bed, added stylish but practical lamps, and included thoughtful touches like jewelry dishes and earplugs for light sleepers.

3. A Dining Table That Makes Sense

We swapped the too-small four-seater table for one that seats all the guests the condo accommodates. Because what’s more frustrating than booking for 7 and finding plates and chairs for 4?

4. Kitchen Glow-Up

No demo needed! We used a faux brick backsplash to cover the outdated tile, replaced the cabinet pulls, and added an extra cabinet to create a coffee and wine bar. Now guests have more storage and a stylish place to start their day (or pour a glass of wine).

5. Details Matter

We hid cords, painted the walls, added fun wallpaper in the bathrooms, and created designated spaces for books, games, beach toys, and more. Guests love that everything has its place—and that it feels clean, fresh, and intentional.
